Annual Meeting

Delegates from all 15 Councils around New Zealand gathered together in Wellington for the Annual Meeting of the New Zealand Reading Association over the weekend of 7 to 9 of June.
It also happened that the All Black test against Ireland was on in Wellington on Saturday night.  As it was a wet cold night we decided to watch the test over a meal at the Back Bencher opposite Parliament.  Lovely meal and great company.

The Annual Meeting allowed for great discussion on a variety of topics.  This meeting is when all the hard mundane work of the association is done.  I'm sure all councils will go back home with ideas that they gleaned from the sharing time after reading council reports.  Some interesting ideas for meetings from around the country.

On the Sunday morning we heard from Rob from Scholastic about some new books that are in the process of being published  and about up and coming publications.  Look out for some goodies from Scholastic.  Also we heard from Lesley, a Taranaki storyteller about her  first book about Thomas and his experiences with a lighthouse.  lastly in this section, Yvonne told us about new books from Huia Publications.

It is also a time to catch up with 'old' friends and make new ones.  Thanks to everyone who made the weekend so memorable.
